The Woodsmen Match Day Function Report

Round 9 – Collingwood V Hawthorn

Erin Mason

Round 9 Collingwood V Hawthorn saw The Woodsmen gather once more in The Yarra Park Room at the MCG.

There was a red glow around the room from the small Sherrin footballs that decorated each place setting.

Master of Ceremonies, Darren James, ably guided the proceedings which commenced with a welcoming address from Chairman, Kim Long. While the Coterie enjoyed their three course meal, Collingwood CEO Gary Pert presented each new Woodsmen member with a plaque.

This was followed by guest speaker, ex Essendon and Hawthorn player Paul Salmon who entertained the Coterie with many interesting stories including his recollection of the 1990 Grand Final against Collingwood.

Current Collingwood players Adam Oxley and Sam McLarty were also interviewed by Darren before the match commenced.

Coterie members have the choice of progressing to their open air seats on level two or enjoying the warmth of The Yarra Park Room watching the match on one of the big screens.

Scones and sandwiches were served at half time to help soothe the woes of the scoreboard, but as Coterie guest Barry remarked – “Collingwood have a never say die attitude. We won’t give up just yet!”

After half time Collingwood turned the match on its head with a stunning comeback to claim an 18-point victory after being down by 43 points early in the second quarter. Captain (and new father) Scott Pendlebury led the way with 36 possessions.

After the match, the atmosphere amongst the Coterie members was electric. An enjoyable night was had by all.

Our next function will be held on Sunday 28 March when Collingwood take on The Brisbane Lions at the MCG.
