The Woodsmen Match Day Function Report

Round 23 – Collingwood v Melbourne

Erin Mason

The last Woodsmen Match Day Function of 2017 finished on a high note when Collingwood beat Melbourne by 16 points at the MCG.

To commence the action packed day, Chairman Kim Long welcomed the Coterie to the function. She gave some insight as to how she began barracking for Collingwood and provided a photo of herself from when she was in the cheer squad in 1979 which ended up on the front page of the newspaper.

The Woodsmen were joined in the room by Greg Evans; host of the well-known

television show Perfect Match, and 3AW’s John Burns.

To collect the 2017 Woodsmen contribution of $153,348.00 was acting Collingwood Chief Executive Officer, Peter Murphy. Peter took the time to give The Woodsmen an overview of the review that is currently in progress at the club.

Levi Greenwood and Jordan De Goey also dropped in to The Yarra Park Room for an interview with Darren James.

To conclude formal proceedings, there was a number of items that were up for auction. A popular item was a bottle of wine featuring Jeremy Howe’s 2017 Queens Birthday mark which was engraved and painted by Perry Fletcher. It achieved an impressive $2,700!

2017 has been a terrific year for The Woodsmen Coterie with many special moments. Highlights include Collingwood’s 125th Anniversary, the annual Woodsmen Wine Auction and the Woodsmen Family Day just to name a few.

Thank you to all Woodsmen members for their contribution, passion and dedication throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you all again for what’s sure to be a big year in 2018!
